In the South Chilcotins
A pine sunk in a shallow,
wind-rocked lake, its needles
dead and drifted down —
blast-shadow branches
swaying in the muck
convincingly, as if
it might be you submerged
and peering up.
Remember when you thought
you knew some thing or two
of love? You did.
You do.
