Lynx
A lynx keen in the old barn
& the moon making twenty joists
Whatever business has the lynx in there I thought when
I’d see him roaming the peripheral reeds every one overfull of nitrates getting
too long too fast / flimsy, unfit
to attend the lives of pike swimming by
& I’d wedge the barn doors shut with a stone
obviate his sadness by leaving bits
of duck about
But next I’d see him with the look of exit heading off
and the barn doors still sticking tight so that when finally we met there
with all the shears and rakes watching from their hooks it was twilight.
It was a gloaming current in the place. And with light on the wane we shut up,
a few sets of desires between us,
we shared a delicate gloom.
