each day is a swarm of mayflies
clinging to the mandarin’s pith
at a certain point i swallow
membrane is membrane as mayfly
is mandarin try not to think about it
june and mayflies stick little legs
in the congealed jam on the jar rim
its jarring really to break small bodies
for toast place the lid and spin wings
wingspans away from each other
i eat one serving of fruit in the time
a nymph hatches from egg emerges
from the dishwater wills its wings
into existence i don’t know why
i thought they’d stay until september
