and
out of darkness, out of the wordless
word, came this strange landscape, white
as winter it was, blinded, rendered
deaf by remarkable silence
and then it spawned itself as the other
and forever kept me
company like a shadow and the phantoms
of the forgotten country
populate the snowflakes of time
beyond time
and the animal with soft paws shone
upon the snow,
stretched and yawned
and named itself
